A Mission to Serve

Honoring Those Who Served

America’s Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country. They answered the call with courage, commitment, and sacrifice. At Bristol Hospice, we believe it is our mission to answer that call in return — by ensuring every Veteran receives the compassionate, dignified end-of-life care they deserve.

The We Honor Veterans program is Bristol Hospice’s commitment to serving Veterans and their families with the same level of dedication they showed our nation. Regardless of branch, era, or circumstance, every Veteran in our care is treated with deep respect and gratitude.

“It is a priority of the We Honor Veterans program to ensure that all Veterans receive compassionate, quality care at the end of life — care that acknowledges their service, addresses their unique needs, and honors their sacrifice.”

Why Veterans Have Unique End-of-Life Needs

Veterans often face end-of-life challenges that are distinct from the general population. Military service can leave lasting physical and emotional impacts, including service-related injuries, post-traumatic stress, and experiences that require a care team with specialized awareness and sensitivity.

Our hospice professionals are trained to recognize and respond to these unique needs with skill and compassion. We work closely with Veterans and their families to ensure care plans reflect their values, honor their history, and bring peace during a profoundly important time.

What the We Honor Veterans Program Includes

Bristol Hospice’s We Honor Veterans program is designed to go beyond standard hospice care by providing:

  • Care team training in Veteran-specific physical and emotional needs
  • Recognition of military service and acknowledgment of sacrifice
  • Sensitivity to service-related trauma, PTSD, and moral injury
  • Coordination with VA benefits and resources where applicable
  • Pinning ceremonies and other meaningful tributes to honor service
  • Bereavement support for families after loss

VA Benefits and Hospice Care

Many Veterans are eligible for hospice care through both Medicare and VA benefits. Our team can help navigate benefit eligibility, coordinate with the VA where appropriate, and ensure Veterans receive the full level of care available to them. If you have questions about what your loved one may qualify for, our care team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to walk you through it with no obligation and no pressure.

Common Questions About Veterans Hospice Care

Questions families often have when considering hospice care for a Veteran loved one.

Is a Veteran eligible for hospice care?
Yes. Veterans are eligible for hospice care under Medicare Part A, Medicaid, and in many cases through VA benefits as well. Eligibility is generally based on a physician’s determination that the patient has a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness follows its expected course. Bristol Hospice can help assess eligibility and explain available options.
Can a Veteran use both VA benefits and Medicare for hospice?
In many cases yes. Veterans who qualify for both VA benefits and Medicare may be able to use both depending on their specific situation. Our care team can help navigate available benefits and coordinate care accordingly. We encourage families to call us so we can walk through the options together.
What makes Bristol Hospice different for Veterans?
Bristol Hospice’s We Honor Veterans program trains our care team to understand the unique physical, emotional, and psychological needs of Veterans. We approach each Veteran’s care with specific awareness of their service history, potential trauma, and personal values.
