If you are caring for a loved one in hospice, you may not know that a benefit exists specifically to give you a break. Bristol Hospice explains what respite care is, how it works under the hospice benefit, and why using it is not something to feel guilty about.
Grief Support Services
Bristol Hospice is committed to providing compassionate bereavement support for individuals and families navigating loss. Our grief services are designed to meet people where they are and offer care, guidance, and connection during difficult seasons.
Whether your loss is recent or from years ago, support may be available. You do not have to go through this alone.
Support for Families of Hospice Patients
Families of patients who received care through Bristol Hospice may be eligible for bereavement support services for up to 13 months following the loss of a loved one, in accordance with Medicare Conditions of Participation.
This extended period of support allows families time to process grief, adjust to life changes, and receive continued emotional guidance beyond the initial weeks and months after loss.
Support for Community Members
In many communities, Bristol Hospice may also offer grief support resources to individuals who were not previously connected to our hospice services. Availability varies by location.
We encourage community members seeking support to contact their local Bristol Hospice office to learn more about available programs and resources.
Available Grief Support Options
Our bereavement services are designed to support people of all ages, cultures, and faith backgrounds. Services may include the following options depending on local program availability.
Individual Grief Support
One on one grief support may be available through in person, virtual, or phone sessions. These conversations provide a private and supportive space to share emotions and receive personalized guidance.
Family and Widow or Widower Support
Support may be available for families and individuals who have lost a spouse or partner. These services focus on shared experiences, coping strategies, and emotional connection.
Children and Teen Grief Support
Specialized programs may be available to help children and teens understand loss, express emotions in healthy ways, and feel supported throughout the grieving process.
Grief Support Groups
Group support sessions bring individuals together who share similar experiences. Groups may include general grief support, spouse loss groups, parent loss groups, and other focused gatherings depending on location.
Faith Based Support
For those who desire spiritual guidance, faith based grief support options may be available. These services respect personal beliefs and offer comfort through spiritual connection.
Memorial Services and Remembrance Events
Bristol Hospice may host memorial services and remembrance events that provide families with meaningful opportunities to honor loved ones and connect with others.
Grief Mailings and Anniversary Outreach
Bereavement mailings and anniversary outreach may be provided to offer encouragement and continued support during the first year following loss.
Crisis Referrals When Needed
If someone is experiencing intense emotional distress, referrals to appropriate emergency or community support resources may be provided to help ensure safety and immediate care.
